Northern Arizona Deaf Connection is accepting film entries for the Deaf Film Festival taking place on Saturday, October 8, 2011, during the Northern Arizona Deaf Expo at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, AZ.
The deadline for submitting an entry is Monday, August 15, 2011.
Northern Arizona Deaf Connection's Deaf Film Festival will provide a venue to showcase Deaf filmmakers and actors while facilitating discussion of current issues and challenges in this field. To be considered for the festival, films must include at least one Deaf/hard of hearing character and the length must be between five minute (minimum) and two hours (maximum). Genres can include animation, documentary, drama and experimental. The film must employ closed-captioning, voice-over or subtitles, and must be suitable for general audiences. The Film Committee will screen all films and determine which of the entries meet the requirements. The approved films will be shown at the festival.
Please submit entries by DVD or provide us with an internet link to the website showcasing your film. We will also accept email attachments at info@nazdeafconnection.com and the attachment must be a .zip file. Please type "Film Committee" in the subject line of the email.

Behind the Scenes in the Amazon: Christy Smith, the DEAF “Survivor”
In 2005, Christy Smith, the deaf woman who was a contestant on CBS's reality game show, Survivor, shares her experiences in sign language. Christy spent 33 days in the Amazon jungle before being voted off. She talks about how and why she applied for "Survivor," playing the game and communication, conditions in the Amazon, deaf awareness, and making a difference.
